Best New Restaurant 2013: The Pearl

With nearly 50 new restaurants having opened between January and December, 2013 was a big year for anyone looking for new dining options. From fine dining to gastropubs to food trucks to pop-up restaurants to cheap eats, there was something to be found for everyone in just about every neighborhood.

In the end, our readers voted for a new restaurant with a prominent Short North location and a prominent restaurateur at the helm: Cameron Mitchell’s The Pearl. Opened at 641 North High Street (the old Burgundy Room space (or the old K2U space if you want to go even further back)) in February, The Pearl spent all year as a top priority for diners to try out for happy hour at the oyster bar, dinner in the main room, late night snacks at the bar, and of course, weekend brunch.

“So, no surprises here,” explained CU Food Critic Miriam Bowers Abbott in her June review. “The Pearl is indeed a pearl and a feather in the cap (though not actually on The Cap – the restaurant is a couple blocks north of the landmark) for Cameron Mitchell.”
