Social Moms Around Columbus - Cap City Diner (Private Party Room)

Val’s BIG-40th birthday was coming up so I had to figure out where I was going to have her party!  I always knew that Cameron Mitchell Restaurants had private party rooms so I went to their website to determine which private party room restaurant I wanted to have the party.  I chose Cap City Diner because the private room sat a maximum of 14 people and thought that the food/atmosphere would be a good fit for a small get together with friends!  (Tip: There is no charge to use the party room as long as a majority of seats are filled)  After confirming the date/time with the manager (Wendy M.), we discussed what items I could bring for the party: decorations (yes!) a banner to put on the wall (no, because the wall had a jagged stone on it and it wouldn’t be able to keep the banner up.)  Next, Wendy and I discussed the menu of appetizers/desserts that we would be sampling at the party. Finally, we talked about a “signature drink” that I wanted to have for the event.  I told her that I was looking for “pink drink” because pink is Val’s favorite color.  Wendy said that since it was around Valentine’s Day, that they had a pink drink already on the menu that was called the Cranberry Pineapple Splash. (2 oz of PineFin, ½ oz Cointreau, splash of cranberry juice)

The day before the event, Wendy also called me to confirm the food/final number of guests tally for the party.  The next day, I arrived at the party a 1/2 hour earlier to set up the “40″ decorations on the tables.  Candy, (the server) greeted me and asked me if I needed any help and I told her I wanted the Cranberry Pineapple Splash drink so I could display it on the table.  As you can see from the pics, I dubbed it “The Val-tini” so our friends could order the drink once they arrived.  After all of the guests arrived and drinks were ordered, the appetizers were brought for us to taste!  We had a chance to sample the following: Maytag Blue Cheese Potato Chips:  Maytag blue cheese, scallions and Alfredo sauce, Pretzels and Cheese: honey mustard, house made warm soft pretzels, Pepperoni Flatbread: zesty Italian tomato sauce, mozzarella cheese, Hot and Sour Calamari: crispy fried rice noodles and bell peppers,  Tamarind Glazed Chicken Wings: spicy and sweet flavor, celery sticks and blue cheese.  A few of our favorites were the Maytag Blue Cheese potato chips (they are better than fries!), Pretzels and Cheese (real mustard seeds in the honey mustard and real cheese flavor in the dip-best I’ve ever had!) and the Tamarind Glazed Chicken Wings.(this was the unexpected surprise of the night and I would order it again because it is flavor you won’t find elsewhere!)

Next, we all ordered our meals from the meatloaf to the crab cakes and everyone was satisfied but they did save room for some dessert!  We also had the opportunity to sample the following desserts: Seriously Big Chocolate Cake: a 3 layer cake, Florida Key Lime:  graham cracker crust with key lime, Big Cup O’ Chocolate: mug of warm, double chocolate lava cake topped with vanilla bean ice cream,  24K Carrot Cake :  with pineapple, golden raisins and walnuts with white chocolate cream cheese icing and Chocolate Covered Peanut Butter Pie: Oreo (TM) crust and chocolate ganache. All of the desserts were outstanding and tasted like they were fresh from the bakery!  A few crowd pleasers were the 24K Carrot cake and the Big Cup O’ Chocolate (who doesn’t love warm chocolate and vanilla ice cream??)  Valerie thoroughly enjoyed her “Seriously Big Chocolate Cake” and she did share it with us!  All in all, we had a great time, and I would plan another event here as the staff is very friendly and made certain that we were taken care of the during our meal.  (Special thanks to Wendy M. and Candy for excellent customer service!)
SMAC Approved!
