The annual Capital City Half Marathon is this weekend in Columbus – and this year’s race is particularly exciting. Just 12 years since being founded in 2004, the Cap City Half is host to the USA Track & Field Half Marathon National Championships for this year and next. The honorable distinction will bring elites and distance runners from around the country, including current Olympians and professionals.
This year, we’re proud to cheer on some members of the Cameron Mitchell team, including President David Miller and Hudson 29 New Albany’s Dining Room Manager Cory Irwin. 26-year-old Irwin is already a seasoned runner, with 12 years’ experience under his belt. Irwin runs competitively for the Columbus Running Company Elite team – a multi-location running specialty store based here in Columbus.
Irwin genuinely enjoys running and sees it as a way to stay mentally as well as physically fit – he runs nearly every day and is always training for his next race. Throughout the year, he regularly competes in 5K, 10K, half marathon and full marathon races, but the 13.1-mile half marathon race is his preferred distance. This will be Irwin’s second time competing in the Cap City half marathon.
After a long run, Irwin’s go-to meal is chocolate milk and a really great burger – ideally the cheeseburger at Hudson 29 – followed by a post-race evening beer.
Cameron Mitchell Restaurants would like to wish good luck to everyone participating in the Cap City event this weekend – cheers!
