The biggest piece of advice I would share with someone entering the hospitality industry is simple: just smile.

I know this seems like a no brainer, but people sometimes don’t realize how much of a difference a smile can make. Our smile is our key feature, and we are the face of the company – no one wants to walk into a restaurant and see a room full of people who look unhappy to be there. Smiles are contagious, and frowns are too!

Remembering to put on a friendly expression is a good rule to live by for anyone – not just for those of us in the hospitality industry. When you’re having a rotten day, putting a smile on your face can help. It won’t take long for your mood to turn around a bit once you realize that your affable exuberance is rubbing off on those around you and making others happier as well.
