David Miller, President and Chief Operating Officer

David Miller joined the Cameron Mitchell Restaurants (CMR) team in 1996 and has been instrumental in facilitating the growth of the Cameron Mitchell Restaurants’ brand from three restaurants to opening more than 70 restaurants across the country, including the launch of a national concept, Ocean Prime, in some of the nation’s largest metropolitan areas. He was also an integral part of developing Cameron Mitchell Premier Events, a full-service event design and catering company, and Buckeye Hospitality Construction, CMR’s own construction company.

With more than two decades in a variety of leadership roles at CMR, David joined the company as Cap City Fine Diner’s general manager and was then promoted as CMR’s first director of operations, where he served the role for two years before serving as the company’s executive vice president for 16 years. David became CMR’s president and chief operating officer in February 2016.

He oversees all aspects of CMR’s day-to-day business and continues to guide restaurant concept development and design. David also provides counsel and helps oversee all nine executive team members and the CMR business as it relates to various facets and departments.

David’s creativity and innovation is demonstrated through his ability to help create and design new and unique concepts, while his business acumen is showcased through developing and implementing CMR’s strategic growth plans. He regularly travels to each restaurant location to conduct president roundtable discussions, interactive meetings with company associates which facilitate genuine understanding of operations at the location level and support the company’s deep culture. He also spends time participating in manager meetings and training classes to help develop managers for future expansion of the company. David’s favorite aspect of his role is seeing these associates and managers grow throughout their career, from promotions through the ranks to purchasing homes, starting families and building their lives.

Throughout his time at CMR, David has taken particular pride in reinforcing CMR’s strong, cohesive and driven culture, and the responsibility and opportunity of growing the various concepts. David’s success also is rooted in his firm belief in the power of teaching, as he says, “develop those around you, and you will naturally succeed.”

Before joining CMR, David spent a decade with The Stouffer Restaurant Company where he was a general manager in numerous markets throughout the country. This experience helped David hone the necessary skills that have made him successful at CMR.

David attended The Ohio State University and Columbus State Community College where he studied hospitality management. David currently serves on the Foundation Board of Columbus State, where he is leading a capital campaign to raise funds for the college’s Culinary Hospitality School. He has served as the chair of The Ohio State University Hospitality Management Advisory Board, where he was instrumental in many school initiatives and continues to be active in shaping their hospitality program. He also is a co-founder of the Columbus Food and Wine Affair.

Beyond his philanthropic activities outside the office, David enjoys OSU football, travel and experiencing great food and wine. His all-time favorite menu items are the Maytag Blue Cheese Chips at Cap City Fine Diner and the Tuna Crudo at Martini Modern Italian. He resides in Bexley with his wife of 26 years and their three boys.
